I don’t know how anybody could not think Albert Pujols would win his second straight N.L. MVP Award?
It is beyond me to think someone like Carlos Beltran, David Wright, or Ryan Howard could win the MVP for the National League. The only other player I feel has a shot to compete with Pujols is Lance Berkman of the Astros. Ok. if you have not noticed Albert has a 329 BA, 35 HR, 93 RBI’s, 87 Runs scored, a OBP that is tops, a slugging that has remained consistent, more walks than strikeouts and he missed three weeks. Beltran has hit some great grand slams and has certianly returned to form, but with a BA hovering at 285, lots of strikeouts he has faded. Howard likewise, not a great average, tons of strikeouts, not many hits and none are clutch like Albert Pujols. Did anyone just witness the Cardinals getting swept by the Pirates? Pujols was the only Red Bird hitting and he has 3 doubles in one game going 4-4, the next game he crushed a two-run HR. Did anyone see him in April and May??? Pujols always finishes strong and he might not have more HR’s in the end, but consistency!

You make a very convincing argument. Also Beltran and Wright are likely to split votes, and unless the Phillies look like they can stay in the hunt until the end Howard will not get enough support. But Howard is the major reason that the Phillies are still in the wild card hunt, especially after trading Abreu and having absolutely no pitching.

I agree that Pujols should win the MVP. HOWEVER, it’s not up to us and it’s not always based on player stats. It is based on stats and the importance of a player to his team. This is why Arod had such a hard time winning MVP while with Texas. He did win it once, but should have won it more based on stats. That being said, I think the top three vote getters in the NL will be Pujols, Beltran and Jose Reyes (in no particular order).

Because the MVP is not automatically given to the player with the most impressive batting statistics.
I’m a big fan of Albert Pujols…and quite frankly, I think he should have been the MVP the last two times that damn Barry Bonds piece of sh*t won it.
He’s certainly a strong contender, and it looks like he’ll be a real contender for the next several years, barring injury…very few players have been so consistent, especially from their rookie year. But Howard, Beltran, and David Wright are legitimate contenders as well. If one of those four are named MVP, I won’t gripe.

To actually sit there and say that Ryan Howard hasn’t had any clutch hit, is ridiculous. He has had 10 walk off homeruns in the year and half he’s played. He has 60 more at bats the n Pujols, 6 more homeruns (if I recall he had 30 by June that’s only 5 in 3 months), has 13 more RBI’s and Pujols only has 7 more walks. Yes, he has a better batting average. Plus Pujols hits between Edmonds and Rolens , not too bad. Where as Howard bats between Burrell and Rowland, who would you rather pitch to.

I actually read a question that Pujols is overrated?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I almost cried, Pujols is the best pure hitter in MLB today. Too bad Espn is paying attention to the sudden spark Mets have somehow gotten this year. PUJOLS FOR MVP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
