Has Bettman killed the NHL?
When i read this article on Yahoo Hockey (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news?slug=dw-bettman012907&prov=yhoo&type=lgns)
A lot of it made sense to me, especially when i heard about the TV ratings for the All-Stars game. I’m not a marketer or a businessman, up in Canada, hockey is as strong as it’s ever been (minus Winnipeg, i.e. Dallas Stars).
What i do know, is that nobody in any management position should stay there for 15 years. Bettman has been there for 15 years, that’s just crazy and incredible at the same time. Only dictators and CEOs stay that long.
Everyone will have a different opinion on this, but it seems that south of the border, hockey is rather marginal, but i don’t live the U.S. so i’m curious.

He’s killing it real slow. Every year the fans get the shaft more and more. Who’s ideal was it to have the All star game in the middle of the week and not on a major network or ESPN. I hope he doesn’t do that when we have it in Atlanta next year.
I don’t mind if someones in place for 15 years as long as they are trying to grow the product. We have some good young players right now that everyone would like to see but he doesn’t want to change the aliment at the moment so everyone will have the chance.
I’m from NY and now Iive in Atlanta and I love the Rangers and Thrashers and the fans in both city have a lot of love for the teams.

The answer is an overwhelming YES!
Bettman is a TRUE bonafide IDIOT!
I think he should have been fired a long time ago.
What was Bettman thinking to try the All Star game on Wednesday? Didn’t he know it was primetime against such shows as American Idol?
American Idol saw 37mil viewers and the All Star game had 400,000 if that.
Hockey is a GREAT sport! but Bettman’s an IDIOT!

It’s bad enough for me that the Flyers couldn’t beat the Mites On Ice, but Bettman and his bobble-head cronies have made a great sport unwatchable for me. I miss the roughing, cross-checking, smashing each other into the boards, fighting, and players deciding the outcome of games.

just before Gary Bettman took over the NHL as the Comish, the NHL was making more money and drawing more fans then the NBA and was pretty close to MLB also. and then he became Comish and everything went down hill after that. hockey was ranked almost 2nd in major sports in North America and now its ranked around 5th or 6th in all major sports. It’s time that Bettman steps down and we need a new TV deal done in the US so the ratings can go back up we have the players and the talent to get back at where it was in the late 80′s and early 90′s. there are to many teams in the NHL that doesn’t deserve a team and has been losing millions over the years and that’s why a salary cap is in to try and help these owners make money even if there not a hockey market city. i know the time changes but we must never forget about the history of this beautiful game and the rules must stop changing to try and sell the game in the South, Bettman has been doing it for 15 years now and nothing has change and just look at what the NHL just did with a poor All-Star game showing in the US. Bettman must go.
Cashese>>>i agree with you a little but please never bring Tie Domi in this he was one of the worst players to ever play in the NHL so please don’t say his name anymore.
GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

He is killing hockey slowly all right. I still think he is a plant by the N.B.A sent to ruin hockey so that everyone has to watch basketball. T.V ratings are down, the neutral zone trap, relocation, expansion to indifferent markets, and an inability to promote the game. Yup, he is still working for basketball.
