Hmmm….well, I think slugs will lay their eggs in between any kind of greens, not just the dandelion – so even if we don’t take the dandelion out of the equation, the slugs will lay their eggs in our other greens.
Wow, wire and battery sounds pretty dramatic – we’ll just stick to the cheap and natural way of pest control – hihihi

@4GreenEarth2 We have found dandelions in our garden and at the base of them we’ve found slug egg nests. I too have never seen them eat them. Your video really got me thinking (and that is always good).
Really like your videos btw!
Video I did find for slug control is pretty neat… using some wire and a 9volt battery!

@4GreenEarth2 You are right that they do not like to eat the dandelions, however, they do like to lay their eggs in between the leaves and near the root systems of dandelions, this gives slugs a “home” to go to. We’ve had problems with slugs ourselves and when I saw this video I wondered about it and I had to look further into this method. This is when I found the article. I too like to eat dandelion leaves in salads… I actually found another slug control method through your video as well!

Hi A&R – thanks for doing further research on slug. Several problems I see with this article. First, in the first sentence it says dandelions provide food for slugs – this is not true, slugs don’t like to eat dandelions because of their bitterness – they don’t even go near it! If you ever notice, dandelions never seems to have their leaves eaten by anything! Second, we control our weed by taking off their flowers – we also eat them by using them in our stir fry, hihihi!

Just did a little research on slugs… perhaps your plants are okay now, but read this:
Get rid of weeds such as dandelions that provide not only food but also refuges for slugs among your plants. Although certain weeds can, in the short term, divert the slugs from feeding on your plants, in the longer term you are probably storing up trouble in the forms of larger slug populations and increasing competitions from weeds.

Just two on each side of the cabbage. We also make sure to cut off any new dandelion flowers coming up – don’t want them spreading all over the place. Dandelion is not a weed for us since we use them in our stir fry.
