OMG… me and my mom who’s almost 90 have been getting calls from these jerks in Jamaica for about 2 weeks now… saying we’ve won 3.5 million dollars but we’d have to send them $350 for insurance to receive the money. They won’t stop calling.. today, November 2, they called 10 times and threatened to come and shoot us. Had the cops here and reported the incident. Don’t what more to do.. gonna call verizon tomorrow and see if I can block Jamaica’s 876 area code.

this is the direct result of out of control corporatism in that our current system creates few “affluent” areas in the world and the rest is left desperate. of course there are desperate people with integrity who would never steal from seniors but if there was more even distribution of wealth created from exploited resources this kind of thing would be a lot less common.

This happens in uk too.
My mothers elderly friend lost about 400k.
She was in the process of buying another home and from sale of previous home put all her money into a dodgy off shore account, nigerian scam it transpired.
She is now homeless and broke aged 76.
Living with her dead beat daughter on a sofa.Very sad.

TheNewMusicNetwork, stop it. They guys who did this scam shit sucked, but you are shttfacing everyone as a result of a fringe group–that is bullshit. Don’t get me wrong, I love Metallica, like you love them and i respect the Viking, but I cannot accept this hat stuff. Look there is good and bad in every group (even the Ngrians did some sht like this.. some British, Russian, Australian and some Aisans). I am Jamaican man. I respect your position, but chill man “nothing else Matters” -metallica

HOW SCAMMERS GET YOUR NUMBER:
some U.S. companies like insurance companies, phone companies or just a on-line business will hire customer service operators located in international countries like India, Nigeria, Jamaica etc. because its cheaper. So when your talking to a operator you might think they are in the U.S. They ask you for your name and number to verify your call(stand procedures). These operators will then sell your information to the local scammers for a fee….

Very true. But the few (although the vast 876 numbers out there don’t sound like a few) sure as hell give the rest a bad name.

violent is an understatement. My father was going to give them the money until my husband and I stepped in. They then called my husbands phone number many times threatening to kill him. The number is 876-297-3827. What is unusual is that he also got a call from a number in New Jersey (apparently it’s a LAN line). The NJ number is 973-855-3171.

the American disease of greed is how this scam works. the age old adage “of it sounds too good to be true…” I had a Nigerian price want to deposit $30 million in my bank account! should I give him my info???
PT Barnum said it best “There is a sucker born every minute”
the only reason the govt will protect is because they take 1/2 of a persons money when they die….inheritance tax. Worse than any Jamaican scammers.
