R there any reasons not to buy macs? comp usa guy said they don’t do most things.?

also ; does anyone believe comp usa is a pain in the ass ripoff? can you explain the mac problem in english laymans terms?

There are pros and cons to both pcs and macs. Macs are widely known to be inferior to pcs in the way of computing power. PCs are known to be inferior on the graphical side of things (where Macs seem to have a far better advantage). Comp USA ppl are very biased (and many people who love PCs tend to hate macs). I’ve used both. I’m on the PC side but i can see the redeeming traits of Macs. It just depends on what you want to do. Although, the new mac books are making me think twice about Macs. If you are doing video/music editing, go with a Mac book.

Macs have traditionally been the computer of choice for the arts; graphic design, animation, movie editting, and more. These days there really isn’t much difference between the two platforms. PC guys seem to be the most inflexible but anyone who learned on a Mac is usually pretty savvy when it comes to the PCs.
A lot just has to do with what you want to be doing, what software you need to run and what kind of network you might have to be compatible with. If you are a gamer you need to make sure you have the right graphics cards and audio system.
I did get ripped off by Comp USA years ago, so buy your Mac at the Apple Store.

The only real reason not to get a Mac these days is if you’re a gamer, the vast majority of games simply aren’t released for the Mac so you’re screwed from the start. Both machines are capable of doing the same things these days, though a lot of software is still PC only so it can be a pain to find an alternative for a Mac. There’s no real difference in terms of raw processing power between the two platforms these days, and the days when Macs were better for graphic applications are long gone. Macs also tend to be a lot more expensive than a comparable PC which is another reason a lot of people avoid them.

Macs improved greatly when they went to Intel recently. You can also install XP on them along with OSX, so you can have a Mac and PC for the price of one. The Mac OS is much more refined than Windows. Installing software and changing settings is a breeze conpared to XP.

CompUSA sucks! My dad had to send his laptop off, and it’s going to take 2 weeks, but get this… They were going to charge him $70 just to back up his files from his 60 GB hard drive! What a rip off! Okay, i could understand maybe $20 for the service, but $70???
Macs are the BEST! Ask any swicher. It’s pretty much a life changing event. The user experiance is so much better than Windows could ever offer, even with Vista. They are so much more intuitive. Things just work. Watch Apple’s new ads.
The last 3 times I visited CompUSA. I would hang around the Apple center for quite a while (about half an hour) and NOBODY came by to see if I needed help. The minute I go over to the PC section, 3 people come within 5 min. The guys there just aren’t comfortable with Macs. They’ll do anything to avoid looking like an idiot because they don’t know anything about them.
There’s too many advantages to list here, but do some more research, and you’ll fine technical (file systems, application isolation), aesthetic (GUI, form follows function), and user experiance advantages.
