Pest control
My father in law claims that he did this and it worked. I want to repeat the process when I replace the same lawn. I live in the Northern California area and my neighbors don’t seem to be interested in any pest control but I’ve had a nice lawn up until last year when I believe that the wire meshing may have rusted thru.

The netting should work, it would definitely keep dogs from digging, but have to make sure that it is deep enough to keep the moles from eating the plant roots, and a tight enough weave that they can not pass through the openings.
We live in CA and have inherited the neighbors mole. Our dog finally got one, but short of that, there is a spray that you can use that drives the moles away.
Mix one-cup of Murphy’s Oil Soap with one ounce of castor oil and a quarter cup cayenne pepper. Mix these three ingredients with water to make a two to one mixture. Use a garden sprayer and spray the area where the mole travels. You can also pour this mixture into the mole’s tunnel. Be careful when working with this homemade mole killer. Do not allow it to get into your eyes

I also have a mole/gofer problem. This was suggested to me by my local nursery. I didn’t have plans to dig up my entire lawn but if I was putting in a new lawn I would definitely consider doing it. Galvanized wire mesh shouldn’t rust for a long time.
I still have my ongoing battle and found traps to be the best. I have tried the bates poisons, gases, and repellents, My cat and the traps have been the only things even moderately effective. The other thing I thought helped, if you have a dog, put your dog waste (feces) down the open gofer holes before you back fill them. Kind of killed to birds with one stone. My gardener said it wouldn’t work but I didn’t have any gofers for quite a long time after I did it.
