Do those sonic pest control things really keep mice away?

I’ve seen these sonic pest control things in stores and I’m just wondering if they work. You plug them in and they supposedly make a high pitched noise that humans and dogs can not hear, but mice and rats can and it keeps them away. I live in an old apartment complex and I can hear scurrying in the walls occasionally. I would really like to keep the “scurrying” out of my apartment. Before I waste my money, I’d love a second opinion!

The best solution, apparently, is making sure there’s no odiferous garbage to attract rats/mice. Personally, I’ve had success with traps, but it’s certainly not pleasant.

no. They do not and have not been proven scientifically to work regardless of stupid claims. Put out poision (or get some sticky strips) and keep all your food in chew proof containers like plastic or metal popcorn cans. If you suspect something has been sharing your food….pitch it! I live in the country and have 9 cats outside and one in. Never have mice/rats/squirrels…..lol just FAT cats!

my mom claimed to have seen a mouse one day in the kitchen and she bought one. since then, we haven’t had any issues or rodent sightings. and because it appeared to have worked, she bought a bunch for our new house…no rodent issues there either. so i assume they work…good luck.

Rats ate the battery of my ultrasonic rat repeller. Fortunately it was not a lead-acid one which would have been torturous. Rat-right watchers would have sued me for that. The battery was rechargeable though. I wonder if rats have enough bio-voltage to charge it in their stomach. All that is beyond me. I give up.
