Very often, public apathy rules when it comes to dengue prevention. Although there are educational materials and warnings, people sometimes overlooked the importance of making sure their surroundings are not breeding grounds for dengue mosquitoes. For the residents of Villa Seri Kenanga, Batu Uban, Penang, they are now living in terrible fears and worries. Two sisters, age 3 and 4 years died within a day from each other. Meanwhile, 17 more people including children are still warded at the hospitals due to suspected dengue. Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng together with the Dewan Speaker and Exco in charge of Health and other political parties members from PKR and PAS visited the family of Nik Shamrul Zaini. Exco in charge of health, Phee Boon Poh informed the press that the area in Batu Uban is one of the hotspots for dengue. Although a lot of efforts have been taken by the residents and also the health department, the dengue infestation is persisten. Phee said this could be due to two reasons. One is the mobility of labourers who worked in construction sites and live in jungles and hills in the surrounding areas. Their bodies have antibodies but they can be carriers of dengue.
