Start by calling your credit card company and freezing your cards. Don’t let the creeps use it any more. Also, while yo are on the phone with them, ask them to send you an Affidavit of Forgery. They will usually mail it to you in a few days. To help the police out, ask your company to tell you when and where the card has been used. Get the exact amount of the transactions and any store numbers they may have, including a batch number.
Next, call the police and make a report. Make sure you give them all the data from the credit card company. Having the exact dates, times, and amounts will help them possibly catch the criminals. The problem they have is that security systems will record over their video (usually with 24-48 hours) of the crime. It had gotten much better with the advent of DVR (digital) security recordings, but they still will be erased after a while.
With all of that said, it’s a crap shoot from there on out. Depnding on what the criminals did, they may have screwed up some aspect of your future credit. You need to keep you police report number handy for years to come, I’m afriad. Having a copy of your report can help doubting credit agencies.
