I missed court appearance for posession of a controlled substance 2 years ago. What are the consequences?

I was caught in Colorado but was living in Florida at the time and like an idiot, I did not fly back for my court date and subsequently forgot about the charge for a while. Will I have a warrant out for my arrest in all 50 states? Will this effect my passport in anyway, or keep me from renewing my passport? I have never recieved any letters or warrants through the mail. Or been contacted by anyone concerning the charge. I have also been stopped in Florida a few times and had my drivers license checked without a warrant showing up. I have had no problems flying in and out of the country several times. What would be my best course of action for resolving this longstanding situation? Thanks for your help.

The warrant is only in Fl, but is accessible to all 50 states. Good luck on your next traffic stop or when you go for license renewal.

Your Best Bet is to get a lawyer to handle the warrant before it bites you later they have away of doing that at the worst possible time

Drug possession charges don’t normally “disappear” and depending upon certain conditions could be removed from record or remain active….either way.
The results of a case not adjudicated could result in the termination of a drivers license if the state maintains reciprocity which all 50 states comply.
Often times the case is only a misdemeanor and being out of state….there is no request to send you back to the offended state.
My suggestion would be to see if the warrant is still outstanding and attempt to finalize the problem.

First, not all states have reciprocity. So if Colorado does not have it with FL, the warrant won’t show up. Most likely, like any other state, Colorado has a bench warrant for failure to appear. That is usually a no bail warrant, which requires you to appear before a judge. Best bet for you is to contact a lawyer and see if you can get the matter cleared up, especially if you plan on going to Colorado again. With respect to your passport, if an NCIC is run on you, it could show up. Contact an attorney to clear the matter up. Good luck.

youll be issued a warrant if you get sopped it doesnt mean youll go to jail depending on the bail ammount – in california in county warrant is 5000 and out of county is 7500 to be taken to jail anything under is a ticket to go to court … no big deal

You most likely have a warrant out for failure to appear (FTA). Just because you have not been picked up does not mean there is no warrant. It all depends on whether the originating agency who put in the warrant wants to pay to extradite you. You may have skated by several times, that does not mean they won’t want you next time. If you do not want to be arrested you need to contact the court and have this matter resolved. It will not go away until you resolve or you are eventually arrested.

You have a bench warrant out for your arrest. They’ll find out about it when you try to renew and they’re not going to let you. You should just go turn yourself in and get your charges taken care of. You’ll probably be magistrated either the same or next day.

If it’s only misdemeanor possession, there really isn’t anything anyone will do unless you go back to Colorado. If you aren’t planning on going there frequently, I wouldn’t sweat it. After 7 or 10 years they will probably dismiss it and it won’t go down as a conviction.
If it is a felony warrant, well…that is a different story. But I think you would have already found out when you were pulled over in Florida.

You will have a bench warrant out. You can call the department and ask how much is the bond. if the band is paid they will issue you a new court date. If you forget to go again you lose your bond money.
