Are the drinks free for New Years Eve in Las Vegas, and how do we get them?

Hubby and I are flying in on NYE and get in about 10 pm. We are staying at the sahara and know the strip will be closed so we will have to walk to where ever we want to watch the fireworks show. I have done a lot of reading on here and other sites and see lots of party favors and drinks, but read a couple of places that the drinks are all free. Since most hotels are closing their doors to non guests I am wondering how to go about getting drinks then, quickly.
Where would we get party favors also? Any tips would be great, since we don’t have a lot of time before midnight…Thanks!

If you bet enough money on anything in any casino, everything will be free, even the room. I had a friend who when with some buddies and one of them dropped about 3k on a sports bet and thier room and food was all comped.

Just go the way you’re planning and the rest will work itself out – it’s Vegas baby! Seriously, booze and party favors are the last things you have to worry about, especially in Vegas on a holiday like New Years Eve. Have fun!
P.S. Why not get booze at the Sahara where you’re staying? Otherwise just pack about 8 mini-bottles in your purse. That’s equivalent to a pint of liquor.

Only if you a actively gambling at a table or machine….NOW with all the layoffs here GOOD LUCK GETTING A COCKTAIL WAITRESS IN A CASINO especially New Years Eve…..You can just look up in the sky and see the fireworks from the Sahara….Dont get your hopes up on service..THE SHARA has laid off about 70% of its staff DO NOT EAT THEIR BUFFET…..

You have to decide which is more important- watching the fireworks or getting blitzed out of your mind. If it was me, I would definitely ditch the fireworks and save those for the 4th of July. Also, you are going to have to accept that you will have to pay for your own alcohol. Vegas has really cut down on on offering free drinks- for awhile some places would serve free liquor if you were gambling- now there is even less of this.
If you decide to do both at the same time, I would recommend to start drinking heavily on the plane and then buy some liquor to carry around with you.
So, yeah, just buy the liquor yourself… 2 hours of free drinking does not sound all that great anyway.

As long as you’re gambling the drinks are always free in Vegas, the strip never closes, hotels never close to non guests because they are attached to casinos. There are never any clocks in the casinos and they’re open 24/7. Just go into the Sahara Resort….check in……go to the attached casino and put a couple of dollars in a slot machine. The girl will come over and take your drink order and the drink is free – just give her a tip. They will probably hand out party favors when you check in. Vegas is different than any place else in the U.S. with the exception of Reno or Tahoe. It’s always “party time” in Vegas.

I haven’t heard of that, it is quite the opposite they charge an arm and a leg if you are on the strip on new year’s eve. There are those expensive parties that are thrown and sometimes they have an open bar, but other than that or gambling you won’t get free drinks. I live in vegas and spent last year on the strip for NYE so no.

The drinks are free in every hotel every night in vegas if you are gambling, even a dollar in a slot machine gets you a free drink, obviously you tip the waitress.
Ive never heard of casinos in vegas closing their doors to non guests, they could lose a fortune doing that!!!

Free drinks are for gamblers only. If you want free drinks, you need to be at a table. Most casinos will let peoplel in, monitoring the fire code numbers. I would recommend you either gamble at Sahara or find the one you want and get inside as early as possible.

Get in at 10, get a cab by 11, get near the MGM by 11:30 and the hotel by 2 am… You will miss it all…
The strip will be packed with about 250,000 people by 8pm… Thats down from last year…
That is IF your plane is on time….
If you get near your hotel, its a long walk thru the crowds to get your room
If you come without luggage, hit the strip at the MGM and save the money and time… Its a party anywhere near the strip…
Good luck,
