Does insect repellent repel butterflies as well?

I know butterflies are insects, but I’m not sure if bug spray (the kind you put on yourself) repels ALL insects or just pest insects like mosquitoes. I need to know because I will be working on a butterfly garden soon for my university and I kind of want to wear bug spray so I’m not covered in bug bites after the project is finished….but I also don’t want to repel the butterflies.

Instead of asking all of us out here on the web, why not just contact the company that makes the insect repellent that you are going to use.
My guess is that it will not repel butterflies, but you should really ask the folks who make the repellent, since they would be the ones to know with certainty. There should be contact information for asking questions on the product.

mosquitoes find their food from gasses emitted from your body..carbon dioxide you breathe out, but more so to gases from lactic acid from your skin… products that contain deet or lotions like Skin So Soft cover up and masks these chemicals you emit. So these won’t effect your butterfly outing.
