Do flea collars for cats really work, and if they do, which ones are the fastest and the best?

Is Frontline available at Petsmart, or is it prescription only?
I was trying to NOT have to go to the vet, but I guess I have no choice if I want the best protection for my cats. Thanks to everyone who answered my question, I appreciate you all.

In my experience, collars are extremely limited in their effectiveness. I suggest Frontline or an equivalent to stop fleas. Check out the link:

We used to use the frontline for cats and then after a while I noticed that they weren’t working for the full month so I went to Wal-mart and bought some purple and white ones (they kill eggs and fleas, maybe ticks too, I’m not for sure) they were like 5 bucks and last about 3 months you can find them down the pet food ilse and they should be by the toys and shampoos. I just switch them out every 3 months and keep them on all year long and my cats don’t seem to be bothered by them (at first they jumped and ran and fussed, but that only lasted about an hour lol) but now they don’t even mind.

A vet once told me that putting a flea collar on your cat is like putting a ring of poison around its neck. So consider Frontline, either spray or neck drops, it is the best!

flea collars don’t work, in fact I call them flea callers…lol. Frontline is the best, and you dont need a prescription for it. You apply it once a month and you never see a flea. You can get it just about anywhere, but I like http://www.1800petmeds.com. free shipping too

Flea collars don’t work that well.Go to Wally World & get Sergeants Gold. I use one on my cat monthly & never have a problem with fleas. It’s alot easier & cheaper than the vet.

I don’t think flea collars really work. I think the item that really works is like front line, revolution, advantage. Flea and tick medication that you would purchase from your local vet is the best.

No flea collars don’t work. We had them on Lily and she still got fleas and they didn’t die from her wearing a collar.
When we went to the Vet get spot-on drops (the best thing you can do to kill fleas), we asked about collars and he said they really aren’t useful, and most of the insectesides used have now been withdrawn from the market.

You shouldn’t use flea collars on outside cats–they can get hung up and tangled on things and choke themselves. Ask your vet (or maybe Petsmart?) for Ovatrol spray. It is absolutely the most effective for fleas.
