How can I control those red fire ants organically?

ants
These little red ants are terrorizing my yard. Their bites are painful for me and my guests and they climb up some of my plants, like my yellow twig dogwood, and bite off the leaves at the base. I would like to control them organically because I have a dog that is scent driven and will snort up or chew on poison if found. He will notice a weird scent and dig it up.

Diatomaceous Earth. I have used it for years now, it helps with many pest, ticks, ants, etc. Safe around pets. You can get at site below or at a Lowes.

Well, if they are not in food crops, I’d go ahead and use fire ant bait. Check at your local nursery or garden center. Walmart and Lowes carry it. You can make a little cage out of hardware cloth to keep your dog out of the ant bait.
Here’s what I’ve do in my vegetable garden. Find the ant hill. Pour boiling water down the hole at least a quart. Wait about five minutes then put a spritzer on your garden hose and spray deep down into the hole flooding it and hopefully destroying tunnels. I repeat this procedure three to four days in a row–boiling water followed by a jet of water. After I’m convinced the ants are either drowned or gone, I fill the hole with mud.
There’s a lot of talk about repelling ants with mint and baby powder and chili powder etc. By the time you fool with all that the fire ants will have taken out your garden.

If you buy diatamaceous earth make sure it’s human grade. The d.e. that’s sold at hardware stores isn’t safe for pets to ingest. I put it in my kitty litter box in the garage in the summer to keep the flies under control.

If you can locate their home, boiling water works wonderfully. Their tunneling system carries it through to most of them quickly enough to kill while the water is still hot.
