HELP!!! I just found a carpenter ant nest in my house!?

I found a carpenter ant nest from following ants and they all came back in this 1 little crack in the wood. I blocked it off with a card so they cant get in or out. This was a few hours ago. Now several ants are trying to get back in. I have no idea what I should do. Let them be? kill them? spray? poison? take the card out?
Please dont say call a professional because if i need to i will but i mean for right now at this moment what should i do

a more natural approach would be to sprinkls pepper or cinnimon right where they are coming in . if the nest is exposed , borrow a shop vac and suck the nest up, than empty it into a trash bag, tie it up tight, and dispose of it immediatly. Hope I helped

Been told by exterminator that carpenter ants do not nest in homes.
Doing some renovation & did find some damage.
They gave me some “dust” to spread around to protect new framing.
Apparently they track it back to the nest & it kills them or at least makes them puke.
Did find the nest in a small pile of firewood which is common.
If they want in or out the card is just a snack.
